My father, Sam Begg, wrote down his memories - and called the book "How Grey Was My Valley". The stories are about his family's immigration to America from Croatia, his childhood in Swissvale, PA, and his life with my mom.
With this blog, I am taking his stories and putting them up - online - and when I can - augmenting them with documentation, further information, and other details.
My dad explains his stories this way
"These stories started out to be a family history,
but by the time I started there was no on to tell me the story except my
mother - in her last days.
I then decided to make it a story, only about the Mon Valley.
Finally,
I decided to write for my children and grandchildren, about my life in
the valley and beyond. They grew up in a different world when compared
to me. I thought they should know the story."
